AC President's Eights - Recap
The Presidents Eights was held at Cairnlea from Friday 2 to Monday 5 October, attracting 23 players from Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales to compete across three divisions.
Greg Hill (Associate MCC Member/Brunswick) competed in the First Eight, Lachlan Berryman in the Second Eight, and Cory Smith in the Third Eight. Unfortunately, Cory withdraw early in the competition.
Despite challenging weather conditions on Friday and Saturday, players and referees did an excellent job keeping play going. Thankfully, Sunday brought improved conditions, with sunshine and little wind allowing play to continue at a high standard.
Congratulations to Greg Hill, who secured the First Eight and the Eddie Hunt Trophy after a thrilling finish against Dwayne McCormick of Norwood, South Australia. Both players finished with 11 wins, requiring a play-off, which Greg won convincingly, 26–14.
Lachlan Berryman also had a terrific result, winning the Second Eight and taking home the Tom Howat Cup with an impressive 11 wins. Troy McCallum of Bundaberg, Queensland, finished runner-up.
Congratulations to Greg and Lachlan on their outstanding performances.
